With the Second Life Patterns strategy, each bag can be redesigned to create a new model re-using the same material.
Based on Circular Economy principles, this project educates consumers about how they can build sustainable relationships with their fashion products. Circular Bags was built around two innovative strategies: second life patterns and conscious consumption. Larissa Roviezzo, the founder of Circular Bags, explains the project:
"With the vision of creating a bag that could prolong the life of the original input, I started by studying and exploring geometric shapes that would allow me to “unfold” other products from the first product. This study led me to create a strategy that I call “Second Life Patterns”, meaning that from the very beginning each bag was designed to serve as a material for other designs. This is an innovative way to create patterns that are not meant to fit just one, but an endless number of products.
Through this creative process it became clear that leather would be the perfect material since it is long lasting and it can be biodegradable at the very end of the use cycles.
Coming from the perspective of enhancing conscious consumption, I decided to focus on the idea of an “infinite emotional connection to unique products“. A concept of an ever-evolving long-term relationship that constantly reinvents itself, stays fresh and exciting throughout your life.
My partner, The Foundation Movex is a Leather Technology Center that works with highly skilled artisans from Andaluzia, Spain. Our collaboration was a life-changing experience for me. Their center has incredible technologies which can be used by designers that are looking for sustainable solutions.
The capsule collection includes 5 bags of different sizes. With the Second Life Patterns strategy, each bag can be redesigned to create a new model re-using the same material.
